British Columbia and the City: Canadians head to San Francisco

I'm headed to San Francisco next week for the US Media Markplace, sponsored by the Canadian Tourism Commission.

Every year, on alternating coasts, more than 100 US-based travel writers and editors meet with tourism representatives from across Canada to find out what's new and what's cool north of the 49th Parallel.

This year's host hotel is The Fairmont San Francisco on Nob Hill.

Running concurrently is BC Experience, a unique marketing showcase sponsored by British Columbia's Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts.

BC Experience
is at Embarcadero Square April 8-18, 2010 and the centerpiece is a 600-foot zipline. It's the same one that was in Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

On hand opening day (April 8) will be two gold-medal winning Olympians, Canadian ski cross racer Ashleigh McIvor and US speed skater Shani Davis. They'll be zipping above the streets of San Francisco to christen BC Experience.

I'll be posting words and photos from my trip to San Francisco next week as Canada (and I) head south!
