I'm not surprised that William and Kate had food on their Royal Tour Itinerary during their afternoon in Montreal -- it's a true foodie town. Back when Gourmet magazine was still on the stands, the entire March 2006 issue was devoted to this oh, so French city and its cuisine.
After Their Royal Highnesses arrived from Ottawa at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport on the afternoon of July 2, they visited patients and their families at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Centre. It's the largest mother-child center in Canada and one of the four largest pediatric centers in North America. From there, it was off to a cooking class! OK, it was officially described as a cooking workshop, and the Institute de Tourisme et d'hotellerie du Quebec (IHQ) hosted the royal newlyweds. According to the itinerary, the couple was to be "treated to an outstanding experience in tourism and hospitality." The institute, which takes an innovative approach to tourism and the hotel industry, is a key player in Montreal's gastronomic sector.

Friends in Montreal agree that the poutine is very good and the place is not a tourist place but a real neighbourhood hang out. We enjoyed it.
Schwartz's Deli was also great, great place to meet people!
