Best of 2010: Fun food finds in British Columbia and Alberta

I was somewhat surprised that my 2010 adventures in Canada were limited to British Columbia and Alberta. Maybe that's 'cuz I got to enjoy so much more of it the year before during Closet Canuck's Great Big Canadian Train Adventure.

Fortunately, there was nothing dull about the dining scene in the two provinces where I spent time in the past 12 months. Here is my Best of 2010: A dozen fun food finds in BC and Alberta.

Bon Appetit!

Ok now I'm hungry! Next time you are in Vancouver and want a casual French Bistro type meal, try The Twisted Fork on Granville Street. It opened in June and I went last night for the first time. They don't take reservations so we got there right at six. Check the site, they have specials and you can do a great meal for a reasonable price....the food was wonderful. The desserts amazing...one of the best Creme Brule I've ever had. The best thing though was the mix of great food and a very casual laid back atmosphere. Oh and Happy New Year.

Oooh, I haven't heard about that resto. I'll be up there next month so will try and stop by. I also want to try The Corner Suite, another French bistro, on Thurlow. Have you been there? Too many restos, too little time! Thanks for the tip and a Happy 2011 to you, too!

No I haven't been to Corner Suite, but have heard that they are coming into their own after being opened awhile. Hmmmmm. I am going for lunch with friends on Monday and we were going to go to La Brasserie on Davie. If we go to Corner Suite instead I'll let you know how it is. Oh the Wild Mushroom tarte at Twisted Fork as a 'small fork' was also very, very good.

Didn't get to The Corner Bistro this time. So it's up to you now!!

Twisted Fork was a 45-minute wait for brunch on Sunday, so I passed. And now I just heard that The Corner Suite Bistro went bankrupt and closed!

Too bad about the wait time at Twisted Fork. You sound like me, if I'm hungry I don't like to wait!
Too bad about Corner Bistro, I hadn't heard. The restaurant busisness is tough one.

Did find some good new restos in Gastown and elsewhere, so will be posting about them in the near future. I won't give up on the Twisted Fork!
