With summer finally arriving in western Canada, September and October are ideal times to visit British Columbia's Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park.
Last October, I stayed at Desolation Sound Resort. Located on the Sunshine Coast about 30 minutes north of Powell River, this seasonal resort is spread out over seven wooded acres. Twelve fully-furnished oceanfront timber frame log chalets and apartments overlook Okeover Inlet, surrounded by tall cedars and firs. Some have their own private hot tubs. Enjoy complimentary kayaks and canoes during your stay (kayak lessons and guided trips are available). Scheduled and charter tours of Desolation Sound can also be arranged, along with hiking tours. Special rates (Sept. 6-Oct. 30, 2011) start at $85 for a one-bedroom apartment and $99 for a one-bedroom chalet.
I had a full kitchen in my unit, but enjoyed dinner at the nearby Laughing Oyster Restaurant in Okeover Arm. Chef David Bowes has created a bountiful menu with such items as David's Cajun Bouillabaisse, seafood in a spicy prawn and beer broth over rice; fresh BC wild salmon and of course, oysters. There's a Dinner Concert & Chef's Buffet on Monday evenings and Steak & Seafood Buffet on Wednesday evenings. The restaurant has great water views and features an outdoor deck. It's a casual place; feel free to show up in your kayak garb!

Wow, that sounds like a great place to visit! Good prices too. I have never been to Canada but my hubby went a couple of years ago for business to Quebec and he loved it! It is definitely in our future!
Yes, the Sunshine Coast of BC is a beauty. And I love Quebec ... was just in Quebec City last month. One of my favorites ... put them all on your list!
