The Butchart Gardens' Magic of Christmas lights up the night
Just because winter arrives this month doesn't mean that you can't go on a garden tour. Long on my list has been the holiday light show at The Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island.
The Magic of Christmas officially opens on December 1, when the switch will be flipped shortly after 5 PM. The ceremonial lighting will turn on tens of thousands of lights, festive decorations and the annual Twelve Days of Christmas display.
Entertainment during the ceremony will be provided by traditional Christmas carolers and the Festive Brass. Carousel rides will be complimentary on opening day to coincide with the light-up ceremony.
Enjoy outdoor entertainment along with the lighting displays through Jan. 6, 2011. There's also an ice rink; if you don't have your own skates, there are rentals available, along with helmets and wrist guards. Kids are invited to bring in a snowflake made from 8x11" white paper and exchange it for a cup of hot chocolate.
