Springtime means tulips, and Canada is celebrating. The 59th Annual Canadian Tulip Festival runs 18 days, May 6-23, 2011. The main venues along the Tulip Route are Major's Hill Park, located between the Fairmont Chateau Laurier and the National Gallery of Canada overlooking Parliament Hill; and Commissioners Park at Dow's Lake, adjacent to the historic Rideau Canal. Other sites include Festival Plaza at Ottawa City Hall and Lansdowne Park.
This year's theme is Kaleidoscope -- a celebration of spring awakening through color, culture and community. Throughout the 2.5 weeks, there will be national and international musical performances; movies in the park; a kids' zone called FUNtasia; Tulip Ball on May 6; Garden Party (Tea in the Tulips) on Mother's Day; the International Pavilion & Food Emporium; and of course, tulip beds forever!
