Comedian Russell Peters to host 26th Annual Gemini Awards on CBC

I thought the Gemini Awards were already broadcast on CBC, but it turns out there are various Gemini awards that are given out over a week-long period. It's a bit confusing, but at least I'll be able to record the grand finale better known as the 26th Annual Gemini Awards on Sept. 7, 2011 at 8 PM (8:30 NT).

"Superstar comedian" Russell Peters is the host of the show. I've never heard of him nor do I recognize him, but he won the 2008 Gemini for Best Performance or Host in a Variety or Series. Peters will return to his hometown of Toronto for the celebration that will be broadcast live from the CBC Broadcast Centre. Entertainment during the one-hour broadcast includes:
  • Jim Cuddy, front man for Blue Rodeo. He'll perform a new song from his third solo album, Skyscraper Soul, to be released Sept. 27, 2011
  • City and Colour, alias of Juno Award winning singer-songwriter Dallas Green. He'll showcase his upcoming second single from his album Little Hell
  • Deborah Cox, multi-platinum artist judge of CBC's Cover Me Canada and Kellylee Evans, 2011 Juno award winner for her jazz album Nina. The duo will be backed by dancers from CTV's So You Think You Can Dance Canada.
Digital host Tom Green, who will be in the Tom Green Room, will be streaming the show online beginning at 7 PM ET at cbc.ca/live. It will be available On Demand as a digital companion to the 8 PM (8:30 NT) television broadcast.

The 26th Annual Gemini Awards may also be followed on Twitter @CBCLive and #geminiawards and/or @thegeminiawards.
