Victoria Inner Harbour kayak tour includes a stop for fish 'n chips

Several summers ago, my hubby and I went kayaking with Ocean River Adventures in Victoria, BC. It was billed as a Victoria Sunset Cruise, but it rained most of the time, so the sunset wasn't one of the highlights. But what a great trip! We paddled all the way up the Inner Harbour Causeway, and a seal played hide 'n seek with me for most of the trip. Afterwards, we warmed up with a delicious dinner at one of my favorite Victoria restaurants, L'Ecole.

Ocean River Adventures has added a new kayak tour to its menu, the Victoria Harbour Tour. It's one that I'll sign up for. This one showcases a different view of Victoria's Inner Harbour, and includes my favorite -- fish 'n chips. The three-hour tour is for kayakers of all levels, from beginner to advanced. After meeting with an Ocean River guide for a safety briefing, you'll launch into the Inner Harbour from Ocean River's private dock. Paddle along the shoreline as you watch for seals, eagles and other wildlife -- and see Victoria in all its splendor from the water.

Then it's off to Barb's Fish & Chips, located at Fisherman's Wharf, where you'll be able to purchase lunch. Barb's is a floating seafood restaurant often touted as having "the best fish 'n chips for more than 25 years." Paddlers will be allowed to go to the front of the line (no, you can't order from your kayak!), so you won't lose time on the water. Following the lunch break, it's more paddling in the Inner Harbour, while learning about the importance of ocean sustainability. The Victoria Harbour Tour is available May-October, Monday-Sunday at 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM. Rates start at $70 per paddler.
Note: I'm a big fan of fish 'n chips, and even though I was at Fisherman's Wharf this summer, I'd just eaten breakfast and it was too early for lunch at Barb's Fish & Chips. Next time -- preferably by kayak!
