That's why I'm a fan of George Stroumboulopoulos and CBC' The Hour (click on to watch the episode with George interviewing Plummer). Every night I learn a little bit more about O Canada.
Born in Toronto in 1929, Plummer attended Jennings Private School in Montreal. And his great-grandfather was Sir John Abbott, the mayor of Montreal who went on to become the Prime Minister of Canada. Of course we all know Plummer from his role as Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music; but his resume is much more loaded than that.
Plummer's latest artistic foray is playing Prospero in Shakespeare's The Tempest at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, which runs June 11-September 12, 2010.

I would love to ... it's on my bucket list of Canadian adventures. I'm on the west coast so my trips to Eastern Canada are not as frequent as I'd like them to be! I appreciate the comment and have a grand festival this year!
If you possibly can, I'd advise you to do get to Ontario to see The Tempest - I just got back from Stratford after a 'two-day four-play' blitz and thoroughly enjoyed it. Christopher Plummer was amazing - took command of the stage naturally and acted as Prospero in a believable, very sympathetic way - the woman who played Ariel was great too, in fact as an ensemble it was a very powerful production, including the vibrant and clever direction! It was one of my favourite productions that I've seen there.

Thanks for the link on the New Yorker article. I really liked the interview. I just saw Plummer at Stratford today in the Tempest. Brilliant! Hi stage presence is awesome and he rules the character he plays with very nuance!
